Placement

How are students placed in Reading Support?

Step 1: Universal Screening

  • Elementary students are screened 3 times per year using DIBELS assessments

Step 2: Additional Assessments

  • Phonological Awareness Screeners
  • Decoding Surveys
  • Qualitative Reading Inventory
  • Data is collected and analyzed

Step 3: Collaboration - Reading specialist(s) and teachers meet to review data that is collected from several areas to get an overall inventory of students' strengths and needs.

Step 4: Support and Intervention - Students meeting the criteria for reading support are then grouped into the area of their need. The Reading Specialist instructs small groups on their level.
